Nazmul Hasan Nirob, Faridpur Correspondent:
Raihan Jamil, an independent parliamentary candidate from the Faridpur-4 constituency (comprising Bhanga, Sadarpur, and Charbhadrasan upazilas), has announced that he will sell beef for only 1 taka per kilogram. A poster with this announcement has already gone viral on social media.
According to the poster, on Thursday, October 30, beef will be sold for 1 taka per kilogram in Bhanga upazila for poor and underprivileged families on behalf of Raihan Jamil.
Earlier, on September 17, he gained attention by announcing a program to sell hilsa fish for 10 taka in Sadarpur upazila. Thousands of people gathered to buy the fish, but due to limited supply, the situation became chaotic, and he eventually left the area after assigning volunteers to handle the crowd.
“Token System to Avoid Disorder”
When asked about the new initiative, Raihan Jamil said, “I will distribute beef for 1 taka per kilogram on Thursday (October 30) in Bhanga, Faridpur. A list has been prepared and tokens have been issued to the selected recipients. To avoid disorder, the distribution location will not be disclosed publicly. A total of 100 poor and needy families will receive 100 kilograms of beef.”
He added, “We will ensure that no chaos occurs like before. I am coordinating with the administration for their assistance. Good initiatives may face obstacles, but we should not stop. Such programs will continue in the future.”
Local businessman Mizanur Rahman said, “Raihan Jamil’s initiative is commendable. Even major political leaders in Faridpur have not done something like this. I appreciate his humanitarian effort.”
Another local resident, Moniruzzaman Sheikh, said, “He is trying to do something for the people. If his efforts help the underprivileged, it’s a good deed.”
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Ashraf Hossain (BP) of Bhanga Police Station said, “We have heard about the one-taka beef distribution initiative by independent candidate Raihan Jamil. We have spoken with him, but permission has not yet been granted. If he receives approval from the Deputy Commissioner (DC), the police administration will cooperate.”
Raihan Jamil’s announcement has sparked widespread discussion across the local area.
